Last November 6, The Policy Debate was held in the Cheonglim Hall on the 2nd floor of Hannam University Student Union Building. The policy debate, hosted by Hannam University's Central Election Commission and organized by the Hannam Media Center, is a place to discuss the policies of candidates who will represent students. Candidates for the post of 2021 student president were Jeong Il-Kwon, from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and vice president Choi Hwa-Hyun, from Department of Business Statistics. They were as the sole candidates. Due to the danger of COVID-19, the program was conducted with disinfection measures, including temperature check and hand sterilization, when entering the hall. The debate was held with Q&A on the candidate's pledge by the Media Center reporter panel, followed by Q&A from the audience.

Reporter Kwon Oh Sun: The candidate has offered to diversify the scholarship as a pledge. If so, please explain in detail whether it means establishing a new system or expanding the number of existing scholarship recipients.

Jeong, Il Kwon: Currently, there are numerous scholarships available at our school. However, there are few scholarships related to student welfare to promote students' health, and among the numerous scholarships, there are mostly educational or academic scholarships. But I think we also need a good scholarship that all students can easily access. We will try to create a new scholarship by reducing the number of scholarships that do not have a clear standard among existing scholarships.

Reporter Lee Seung Chan: Candidates said you would reduce the number of scholarships that do not have clear standard. Please tell us in detail what scholarships do not have clear standards and what scholarships you plan to reduce.

Choi, Hwa Hyun: There are scholarships provided by recommendation, such as a professor's recommendation. But I do not think there are clear grounds and standards for such recommendations. So, we would like to reduce the amount of money received and create another scholarship.

Reporter Min, Su Yeon: The candidate said you would activate the Student Council's YouTube channel to focus on promoting the school. Please tell us what video content you are planning to produce.

Choi, Hwa Hyun: If we are elected, we will ask for cooperation in filming and editing through consultation with the Media Center. We will make the process of the event in a V-log format and disclose the process more transparently. In addition, we will try to make progress smoother by identifying incomplete parts in preparation and progress through video. Through this, we will inform you about the preparation process for each school event.

Reporter Min, Su Yeon: The candidate said that you would remove the risk factors existing on the campus through a periodic disinfection system. Please tell us about the disinfection system you are planning.

Jeong, Il Kwon: We will expand booths for performing temperature checks and hand sanitizers by opening the additional doors, and put more effort into disinfection through thorough entry and exit management as well as antibacterial filter replacement in elevators. Since there are financial problems regarding disinfection through companies, we will decide later in consultation with the school.

Reporter Lee Seung Chan: The candidate said he would work with local agencies to solve the job problem. Please answer if there is any institution the candidate has in mind.

Choi, Hwa Hyun: First, we thought of institutions such as Daedeok-gu Office and Daejeon City Hall in the community center near the school, and as a result of conducting an investigation by phone call in advance, the Ojeong-dong Community Center has a public package for youth projects, and the Hongdo-dong Community Center can use the job program when an official document is presented. Daedeok-gu Office and City Hall are currently conducting online fairs on Naver, so students can easily access them. In addition, they are preparing a youth project sponsored by Daejeon Station. We will make effort on specific plans and pledges implementation through future links with local agencies.

The 2021 policy debate ended with a Q&A on each pledge and the candidates' answers to the audience's impromptu questions. Candidates said that No.18 of the 18 pledges states that “Student Council for the realization of dreams” is the most important pledge. Therefore, I hope that in the coming 2021, they will try to make their students' dreams come true, and become more honest and wise candidates of the Student Council.
