Many colleges, including Hannam University, have systems to protect campus' order and safety. One of these is 'Campus Police'. Campus Police plays the role of a police officer on campus and they maintain an academic atmosphere. Hannam University operates this system through an agreement with Daedeok-Police station. Hannam University's Campus Police is comprised of two staff and four labor student. Also, they split into two teams. They work usually at night time, from 7 to 10 pm during the weekdays, from 12am to 9 pm every Saturday, and from 3 to 8 pm every Sunday. We interview a staff of Hannam University's Campus Police.
Q1. Can you please introduce yourself and Campus Police's duty.
Conductor Jong-pil Kim : I am Jong-pil Kim who runs Campus Police system. First off, Campus Police is always trying to reduce disorderly behaviours by a patrol at night time to protect campus' safety. Through this system, Hannam University can achieve 'Clean Campus'.
Q2. Is there a reason why Campus Police system was introduced?
Conductor Jong-pil Kim : Campus Police system helps to solve negligent accident in campus. And, women can get home safely with them. Also, Hannam University's students involved themselves in the system, they make a crime-free campus by themselves.
Q3. What kind of disorderly behaviours have you noted on campus?
Conductor Jong-pil Kim : There are many unsuitable behaviours including drinking, singing and dancing, taking a walk with pet, littering behavior and cooking on campus.
Q4. What kind of punishment if the rules are violated?
Conductor Jong-pil Kim : There is no punishment. But, when we are receiving reports or witness about disorderly behaviours, we offer them guides quickly and improve our campus.
Q5. I know you introduce Campus Police car recently. Is there some merits?
Conductor Jong-pil Kim : Campus Police is very important at speed like police officer in our society. We can offer immediate attention quickly with Campus Police car and it has high visual effects or mobility, so we can patrol a wider area than before.
Q6. Do you have something for student to 'Clean Campus'?
Conductor Jong-pil Kim : Today, many students use G-cooters without safety helmet or guards and this can lead to small or big accidents. It is also dangerous to all people including students, then you should use it safely and there are pleas not to use them. Second, Hannam University has smoking booth, but many students are smoking anywhere and throw cigarette butt on the ground. You should use smoking booth and toss it in the trash.
Q7. Are there several points in the development of Campus Police system?
Conductor Jong-pil Kim : Thanks to everyone who tries to participate in 'Clean Campus'. We hope to continue to see everyone's participation to maintain order, and then Hannam University will become a safe and healthy campus.
We look closely at Campus Police system through Conductor Jong-pil Kim who runs it. With every passing year, this system has new developmetns and changes. What happened when is there was no Campus Police in our campus? Hannam University's rules were not being abided by and the police officer would get involved in accidents. Also, Campus Police can have immediate attention when we have an emergency because they linked with vicinity Patrol Division. Likewise, Campus Police has become indispensable for our campus. We need all of us to maintain this system. Especially, it is a good experience for students who have interest in this way. According to an engaged Campus Police student, “a patrol is providing my sense of duty and responsibility to school. And I get into the habit of resolving problems”.
